Flood Impacts and Historical Events
Stage Impacts
15.0OCEAN OVERWASH IMPACTS THE ENTIRE COAST FROM MYRTLE BEACH TO GARDEN CITY AND WATER BEGINS TO ENTER STRUCTURES ON PILINGS.
12.0OCEAN OVERWASH AFFECTS AREAS WITH LOWER DUNE LINES...MAINLY FROM MYRTLE BEACH SOUTHWARD AND WATER ENTERS ANY GROUND LEVEL BEACHFRONT STRUCTURE.
10.5OCEAN OVERWASH IN AREAS UNPROTECTED BY DUNES, INCLUDING PORTIONS GARDEN CITY BEACH. WATER MAY ENTER GROUND LEVEL STRUCTURES IN GARDEN CITY BEACH.
8.5On the Horry County coast, White Point Swash, Singleton Creek, Midway Swash, and Deephead Swash may be affected. Parts of Cherry Grove along the canals off Williams Creek, areas near the Trav-L Park, Windham Beach Access and portions of Shore Drive in unincorporated Myrtle Beach, portions of Atlantic and Cypress Avenues and Dogwood Drive in Garden City may be affected. In Georgetown County, parts of Atlantic Avenue, South Dogwood Drive, Myrtle Drive, Spring Avenue, and North Causeway Rd may flood.
7.5SOUNDSIDE FLOODING IN GARDEN CITY BEACH WITH WATER ON ATLANTIC AND CYPRESS AVENUES. STORM WATER DRAINS BACK UP AND FLOOD PINE AVENUE.
7.0Minor street flooding occurs along low-lying waterfront roadways, mainly on the sound side, but also near swashes and tidal creeks. Additional nuisance flooding of beachfront roads results from salt water backing up through the storm drains. A few streets may be temporarily closed around high tide. Water levels can reach up to and in between dunes at high tide, and this problem is exacerbated by any large wave action.
